The Scalder is a heated water tank used to immerse slaughtered poultry birds at a controlled temperature (65 - 80°C) for 30 - 60 seconds before defeathering. Scalding loosens the connection between feathers and follicles, enabling the defeathering machine to remove feathers cleanly without tearing skin or leaving pin feathers. Temperature control is critical in scalding, too low and feathers won't release cleanly, too high and the skin cooks, tears easily, and reduces carcass quality. A proper scalder with a reliable thermostat ensures consistent quality across every batch processed.
